The claims follow weeks of speculation that the X Factor judge and her husband, Jean-Bernard, are no longer together.
During last weekend's semi-final of the talent show, Fernandez-Versini started to cry during a performance of 'Love Is A Losing Game' by contestant Che Chesterman. Many said her tears were down to Chesterman's moving rendition of the song, but sources are now claiming she was upset because she is struggling to save her marriage.
According to The Sun's Dan Wootton, sources are quoted as saying: "There are serious problems for Cheryl and JB. It's very sad and they're trying to make it work, but it could explain why she's clearly not in a good place.
"A lot of us thought she might move towards taking some sort of break earlier this year but she decided to give the relationship another go and try to make it work.
"But there's a feeling she's been unlucky in love and doesn't tend to pick the right men. Let's hope this is not the most disastrous example of that."
Fernandez-Versini, 32, tied the knot with Frenchman Jean-Bernard in July 2014, just three months after the couple met. Initially inseparable, the couple have not been seen together since October, sparking speculation that they are going through a troubled patch. However, just last month, Jean-Bernard, who is a chef, took to Instagram to deny the couple had separated, explaining: "Normally don't read or comment... But the truth is that even when my dad died I put my life on the line for my wife.
"Yes I am working like everybody else to put food on the table but my priority is my wife as this is the last person that is family.
"This is just nonsense. What matters is family and my wife is my only one left so if she needs me I am always going to be there. My wife Cheryl is my priority nothing else."
A representative for Cheryl has refused to comment on the reports.
