Guernsey Approves Same-Sex Marriage

The government on the island of Guernsey has voted in favour of introducing same-sex marriage.

The vote was approved 37 – 7. Two alternative options, which could have introduced same-sex civil partnerships or introduced a single legal form for all (known as Union Civile), were also rejected.

The legislation will be voted on separately. No date has been given for this vote.

It is not known when the law will come into effect, but it is thought to be 2017 at the earliest.
