No. Of Births Recorded Falls To Lowest Level Since 2005

The National Records of Scotland has published its latest provisional figures for births, deaths, adoptions, marriages and civil partnerships for 2015.

During the year, a total of 55,100 births were registered, 1,625 (2.9%) fewer than 2014. It is also the lowest number of births recorded since 2005, and is a continuation of a decline in the number of births since 2008.

Elsewhere, figures show that the number of marriages in 2015 increased by 622 compared to the previous year. 29,691 marriages were registered in 2015, of which 1,671 involved same-sex couples. Of those same-sex marriages, 935 were changes from previous civil partnerships.

There were 64 civil partnerships – 33 male and 31 female.
