Matthew Smith, 23, was found guilty of the murder of 24-year-old Isobel Parker.
The couple had been in a relationship for a number of years and had two children together, but in December 2014 Ms Parker ended their relationship.
During a three-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, it was revealed that Smith did not want their relationship to end. He was also said to have been left distressed after it was revealed that Parker and her new partner, Shane, were expecting their first child together.
On 17 July 2015, emergency services were called to a property in Booth Place having received reports that a woman had been found collapsed. Miss Parker was found lying in the bath with cable ties around her neck.
Sadly, she and her unborn daughter had died.
Smith was later arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently charged with the offence.
DCI Martin Pasmore, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, led the investigation, and said: "This is a sickening murder. Smith could not accept that his relationship with Isobel was over after she had moved on to the extent that she was six months pregnant by a new partner."
Smith was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on today, 22 March. He has been jailed for life to serve a minimum of 18 years.
