His comments come after the couple recently reunited – following their third separation in as many months. Their relationship has frequently been highlighted in the media ever since they first started dating; most notably because the couple said they 'fell in love' while they both appeared on the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother. In addition, at the time, Davis was already in a relationship with another man. That relationship has since come to an end.
However, shortly after Davis and McConnell left the CBB house and started dating, they separated after the Irishman admitted he had slept with another woman. He said the couple hadn't yet made their relationship official when he cheated.
When he separated from Davis the second time, he was then said to have cheated on her again the following day. Cheating allegations were thought to have fuelled the couple's third separation as well, but they have since reunited and appear to be putting their troubled past behind them.
Appearing on Ireland's Seven O'Clock Show, 26-year-old McConnell said: "We're very happy together. We're happy. Obviously coming out of the [CBB] house, it's a whirlwind.
"We've had our ups and downs. She's only 23 and I turned 26 a few weeks ago, we're still young for that kind of life.
"We don't help ourselves with some of the stuff that we've done but we're very happy together and we're just adapting... trying to get through it all."
The couple are also known for documenting their relationship on social media, to which McConnell added: "It doesn't seem to be dying down anytime soon. People saw us fall for each other on TV so they feel that it's part of their business, they feel that they're allowed in, which is fair enough.
"And we put things on social media, which is our own fault as well, so it gives people the right. We're certainly learning as we go. We have to stay true to ourselves."
