Kiddicare Suffers Data Breach

Kiddicare, the parenting retailer, has suffered a data breach.

The breach is understood to have exposed the names, addresses and phone numbers of some of its customers. The company said that following the incident it emailed some 794,000 people who may have been affected, but stressed that no credit or debit or payment details had been exposed.

The data was taken from a version of Kiddicare's website which was set up for testing purposes. The site has since been deleted.

Kiddicare said it was first alerted to a possible breach after a small number of its customers received a text message claiming to be from a subsidiary website of Kiddicare.com. However, Kiddicare only send text messages to its customers in relation to their delivery status. The company was then contacted by a security company with more information which suggested that data may have been compromised. It was discovered that the breach was linked to a 'test' website Kiddicare used in November 2015.

The company has reported the incident to the UK's Information Commissioner.
