Man Arrested Following Death Of Expectant Mother

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a pregnant women in a tower block fire at the weekend.

The blaze occurred at the Balmoral Road flats in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, at around 11.15pm on Saturday, 07 May.


A woman, aged 30, was one of seven taken to hospital following the fire. On Monday night, police confirmed she had died from her injuries. The woman, who has not been named, was eight months pregnant. Her unborn baby also died.

A 47-year-old man from Westcliff has since been arrested and is being questioned by police.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
