70% Of Adults In NI Support Same-Sex Marriage

70 per cent of adults in Northern Ireland believe that homosexual couples should be allowed to marry each other, according to a poll by Ipsos MORI.

However, there remains a degree of variation among demographic groups when it comes to supporting same-sex marriage. Over three-quarters of females agree that homosexual couples should be permitted to marry, while fewer males think the same way.


Over four in five of 16-34 year olds agree with the principle of same-sex marriage, while those aged 65 and over are less sure.

Four in five from a Catholic community background agree that homosexual couples should be allowed to marry compared to 60% of those from a Protestant upbringing.
