Miles Donnelly, 35, admitted killing 44-year-old Usha Patel at her home in Cricklewood, north-west London, in October 2015. Ms Patel shared the property with her five-year-old son.
Appearing at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 21 July, the court heard how Donnelly and Patel had met on a dating website seven months before she invited him back to her home on 07 October. After putting her son to bed, Ms Patel was brutally attacked by Donnelly.
She was found the following morning by a relative.
Following the killing of Ms Patel, Donnelly fled the property to a house in west London where he attacked another woman when she refused his advances.
Donnelly was told he would serve a minimum of 23 years. Donnelly was also given an 18-month sentence for the assault on the other woman, to run concurrently with the life term.
