Pregnant Women Urged To Get Flu Jab

Expectant mothers in Wales are being urged to get the flu jab.

Both Public Health Wales and the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) have spoken out about the increased dangers of flu to women who are pregnant.

Pregnant women are more vulnerable to infections and are unable to fight the flu as well as other people. If they catch the flu, they are also more likely to deliver their baby early, with a higher risk of stillbirth or illness for a baby in their first week.

Helen Rogers, Director of RCM, said the organisation "strongly recommends" pregnant women take the vaccination.

"We also urge midwives and other health professionals to have the vaccination to protect themselves, their family and the people they care for from infection as well," she added.
