The 48-year-old has spent the last 20 years with the 'love rat' label, but he has now insisted that he has changed and is now devoted to his family.
However, appearing on ITV's Lorraine on Wednesday, he admitted that it has taken a lot of work in order to try and shed the unfavourable label.
He told the host: "There were times I know when I wasn't a role model and things are very different now."
He added that appearing on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year helped to change the public's opinion of him.
"The reason for going in the house," he admitted. "I just wanted the opportunity to show the public where I am now. When your children are getting to a certain age, when they use the computer...
"If you Google me now the dodgy stuff is further down. Now nice things are said in the playground.
"It's taken time to build up bridges again. The last decade I've worked hard and it finally feels like all the hard work has paid off.
"My lifestyle changed. I don't drink. I even gave up smoking. I try and be a good husband and father and be a good man."
Day has been married to Stephanie Dooley for nine years and the couple have two children together. He also has a son, Corey, from his former relationship with singer Suzanne Shaw. Day walked out on the pair on Mother's Day in 2005.
Prior to his relationship with Shaw, Day was engaged to Adele Vellacot. The couple separated with Day started an affair with Shaw.
