Investigation Launched Following Baby's Death

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating the "sudden and unexplained death" of a four-month-old boy in Bohola, Co Mayo.

The baby was found following an incident at a property in the area on 28 December, 2016. He was taken to Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar and later transferred to Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin. The baby was pronounced dead on 1 January, 2017.

A post-mortem examination has since been carried out by the State Pathologist and a preliminary report has been sent to investigating Gardaí, however the results are not being released for operational reasons.

On Wednesday, 11 January, a woman in her 20s was arrested as part of the investigation. She is currently being detained at Claremorris Garda Station. The investigation is ongoing.
