The former footballer made the admission when he recently appeared on the 75th anniversary edition of Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.
The couple tied the knot in 1999 and their big day involved thrones, crowns and a large magazine deal. However, when it came to renewing their vows, the 41-year-old said it was a much quieter affair.
He told host Kirsty Young: "We did throw a lot at [our first wedding]. We have renewed our vows since then and it was a lot more private. There was about six people there in our house."
Beckham went on to say that the couple's marriage has lasted is because they are able to work through the "tough times".
He explained: "We've got strong parents. We were brought up with the right values.
"Of course you make mistakes over the years, and we all known marriage is difficult at times but it's about working through it.
"Whenever we've come up against tough times we know each other better than anyone knows us, so we talk. We stay together because we love each other, and because we have four wonderful children."
David and Victoria met in 1997 and announced their engagement the following year. They have four children together; sons Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 14, and 11-year-old Cruz, and five-year-old daughter Harper.
