Last week, 48-year-old Minogue confirmed that the couple were no longer together. Sasse, 29, has since been accused of trying to use the singer's profile to raise his own – despite previously admitting in an interview that he had never heard of the singer prior to them meeting. This allegation was then questioned by Sasse's former co-star who said the actor did know who Kylie was.
Shortly after the couple announced their engagement, they said that they did plan to marry but would only do so once same-sex marriage was legal in Australia. The campaign – Say 'I Do' Down Under – was led by Sasse who last year said: "I wanted to tell you on her [Kylie] behalf and our behalf that until this law has passed in Australia, we will not be getting married."
However, it has now been revealed that the actor has now stopped supporting the marriage equality campaign. According to The Daily Telegraph, a spokesperson from the project's co-founders, Australian Marriage Equality, confirmed their partnership with Sasse is no longer in place.
They said: "The campaign has run its course. It is now over."
The announcement led to a fresh wave of criticism for the actor with many questioning his "opportunistic support" while others suggested he "find another cause to exploit."
Neither Kylie nor Sasse have commented on the reports.
