For girls, Emily remains the most popular name, keeping a hold on the top spot since 2011. Grace is second on the list while Ava and Lucy came joint third. Some of the other most popular girls names include Amelia, Emma, Hannah, Mia and Sophie.
For boys, after nine years claiming the number one spot, Jack is no longer the most popular name. It has slipped to second place, with James overtaking. Third place is shared by Daniel and Conor, with Sean, Noah, Adam, Oisin and Luke also featuring in the top 10.
Overall, 4,526 separate girls' names were registered in 2016, compared to 3,456 for boys.
