Speaking to The Telegraph, the actress, 42, said of the time after the split: "It's been difficult. I don't enjoy being single. It's not something I wanted. There's nothing nice about it. It's just hard."
Her comments follow an interview with Australia's Sydney Morning Herald in which she admitted that she had been taking care of her children and was just trying to get through her days.
She is quoted as saying: "I can't pretend this isn't a tough time in my life, but I'm trying to get through it by just moving forward and knowing it's part of being human.
"Maybe sometimes it appears I am pulling it all together, but really in fact I am just trying to get through my days. I will eventually balance more and do more work, but because of family issues it's been extremely tough."
Jolie and Pitt, 53, started dating in 2005 after meeting on the set of movie Mr & Mrs Smith. The couple tied the knot in France in August 2014 but less than two years later in September 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from her husband, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple have six children together; Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
