The singer, who released her new album Reputation today (Friday 10 November) appears to have referred to her former boyfriend in one of her songs – Getaway Car. The lyrics seem to allude to the couple's first meeting at the Met Gala in 2016. At the time, the pair hit headlines after they were spotted dancing together at the event; Swift was also in a relationship with DJ Calvin Harris at the time.
Getaway Car is about being keen to end a relationship only to start a fling, which could allude to a telling tale about her romance with Harris. It was reported widely in the media that the Swift had ended her year-long relationship with the DJ to start dating the Hollywood actor.
While she describes the relationship as "the best of times, the worst of crimes", she also sings: "I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason."
She later goes on to sing: "The ties were black, the lies were white", a possible reference to her Met Gala introduction to Hiddleston.
"You were driving the getaway car. We were flying, but we'd never get far. Don't pretend it's such a mystery. Think about the place where you first met me," is another lyric.
And when she refers to their break-up? She says: "We were jet-set, Bonnie and Clyde. Until I switch to the other side. I'm in a getaway car, I left you in a motel bar. Put the money in the bag and I stole the keys. That was the last time you ever saw me."
