The pair have been married for 19 years.
Speaking to Vogue magazine Victoria said: "People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal.
"But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that's unfair."
The couple have four children together.
She continued: "We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals.
"Would either of us be in the position that we are in now had we not met and been together all those years ago?
"It's all about the family unit. We are much stronger the six of us, than we would be if we were individuals. We respect that family bond and that is key."
