The Duke of Sussex was grateful for his father's support in stepping up to the role at the royal wedding at Windsor Castle in May, after Meghan's own dad, Thomas Markle, was forced to pull out as he was having heart surgery in the US.
In the BBC documentary which celebrates Prince Charles' birthday, 'Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70', Harry said: "I asked him and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, 'Yes, of course, I'll do whatever Meghan needs and I'm here to support you.'
"For him that's a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he's our father so of course he's gonna be there for us."
During the ceremony at St. George's Chapel, Harry was heard thanking his father as he handed over the bride.
Charles' wife, Duchess Camilla, said she thought it was a "touching" moment when she watched the wedding back on television.
"I think it was a lovely gesture," she revealed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now expecting their first child together who is due next Spring.
