The unnamed woman was approached by staff and asked to use the gender neutral disabled changing facilities, but declined the offer as she is not disabled.
According to BuzzFeed News, staff at the health and wellbeing facility then asked whether she had undergone gender confirmation surgery, which she refused to answer.
She was then ordered to leave the changing rooms, which she claimed to have used for over two months on a daily basis.
"The manager said that men weren't allowed in the women's locker room," the complainant recalled.
"She said: 'I'm afraid you have to leave' because someone was made to feel uncomfortable with me being in there."
The woman has not returned to PureGym since the incident, and is struggling to find a different facility where she will be made to feel more welcome.
Speaking out was her was way of highlighing that there is a "gap" in provisions for people who identify as transgender, and that consideration for them should be given by companies like PureGym when training staff.
She added: "I've heard from other trans women that they've felt ashamed, or humiliated.
"I guess I just want people to know that if you're trying to go to the gym and have a workout, that's nothing to be ashamed of."
