The pair are dads to nine year-old twins Harper and Gideon and believe that by setting a good example they will instil in their children an understanding of how healthy relationships work.
One way they do this is by making time for date nights, often leaving the twins with babysitters despite their sadness.
Speaking to Us weekly magazine, David explained: "We try to go away or take a date night every so often because I think that's really important, not only for the couple, but for the kids to see. The kids see that their parents are safe and their parents are on a good foot. Of course, they don't want you to leave. 'Please stay. Don't go away from us.' But it's important for them to see that we are working on each other because it's another job to cultivate."
Neil and David are navigating their new family life after moving from Los Angeles to New York.
